The Deutschlandticket, introduced in Germany in May 2023, offers a flat-rate public transportation pass for 49 euros per month, allowing unlimited access to buses, trams, ferries, and regional trains. This initiative, which followed the success of the 2022's 9-euro ticket experiment, aims to provide affordable, sustainable travel options across the country, reduce traffic congestion, and make public transit accessible to a broader audience. The first step

Deutschlandticket introduction

The TapConnect D-Ticket product supports all possible flavours of Deutschlandtickets, such as:
  • Normal D-Tickets
  • Job Tickets
  • Schüler Tickets (including Chip Cards)
  • Studenten Tickets
The product can be used for issuing D-Ticket barcodes and chip cards, managing D-Ticket subscriptions
and billing and invoicing for both consumers and businesses.

Issuing is done using the TapConnect back-end which supports all common barcode standards such as VDV, UIC 918.3 and UIC 918.9.

How can you distribute the ticket?

Passengers receive their ticket via an app or in the form of a VDV chip card. The following apps are supported:

TapConnect App

Our own app, TapConnect, can be used. This is a complete white-label app that also takes care of collecting the monthly subscription fees.

TapConnect can be used by all travelers. Ordinary season ticket holders, students, employees and pupils.

The TapConnect app supports ticket sales in the following month. 

Shibboleth

For an additional charge, the TapConnect app can be connected to Shibboleth.

Side-by-site+Uninow

UniNow

The UniNow app is aimed at students. UniNow has an interface to TapConnect and offers a very effective way to sell your Deutschlandsemestertickets. (If you use the UniNow app, the API-only price applies)

Side-by-site app

It is also possible to use TapConnect as a complete ticketing system. Our customer VRM uses the side-by-site app to sell D-tickets alongside regular tickets. 

The side-by-site app offers all possibilities to plan a trip.  (If the side-by-site app is used, the API-only price applies)

Other apps

TapConnect is an API-first solution to which any app can be easily connected, including your own. (If a third-party app is used, the API-only price applies)

VDV KA chip cards

Tickets can also be issued on VDV KA chip cards. TapConnect supports this through a partnership with Identa.
